The progressive movement has fragmented, losing its effectiveness. Some chased after ambitious yet impractical goals, causing paralysis. Others embraced a radical authoritarian ideology, such as call-out and cancel culture, which pushed away libertarian-minded individuals like myself. Furthermore, some became fixated on flawed postmodern critical theory from 20th-century academia, leading to disastrous outcomes when applied in the real world. Essentially, progressivism's shortcomings create an opportunity for reactionary forces to seize control.
